In the 1960s, in Mississippi, black maid Abby Lynn (Viola Davis Viola Davis) diligently took care of the hostess's daughter, who had sex with her best friend because of postpartum depression. Skeeter (Emma Stone Emma Stone), a graduate of the University of Mississippi, is in charge of the housewife's mailbox in the newspaper, and begins to live as a black maid. Among them, Healy (Blaise Dallas Howard Bryce Dallas Howard) is undoubtedly a negative example, she is arrogant, prejudiced against the black maid Minnie (Octavia Spencer Octavia Spencer), and urges the black maid not to share the toilet with the owner.
