In the 1970s, America. Over a period of 12 years, the director shows the evolution of Jack, a highly intelligent serial killer, through a number of murders. The whole film revolves around the perspective of Jack. In his eyes, every murder is a work of art. With the police investigation approaching, he has to take more and more risks every time he commits a crime in order to create the ultimate work of art in his mind. Through repeated conversations with a stranger named Verge, we can gradually understand Jack's artistic interpretation of murder, which is a blend of cruelty and elegance, an almost childish self-pity, and the cause of his psychopath.
