This film tells the touching story of three protagonists working to stop the violence in order to defend the Chicago community where they once worked. The protagonists of the film, the violence blockers, all serve an innovative organization called CeaseFire. The group was founded by epidemiologist Gary Slutkin, who believes that the spread of violence is like the spread of disease, so treatments should track the most infected, find the source and eliminate it. Because of the experience of the blockers themselves, they have very high credibility in the community, and their task is to intervene in the conflict and put an end to it before it turns into large-scale violence. But in the process of stopping the violence, the blockers also have moral confusion and entanglement. The opposing sides of their intervention are familiar friends, and they can feel people's suffering, but they must stop their resistance because of the pain. The film has been filmed for a year, reflecting the period when Chicago became a symbol of national violence. At that time, violent crimes were common throughout the city, the most sensational being the Derrion Albert case, in which a Chicago high school student was beaten to death.
