Lupa (Robert De Niro), who is obsessed with talk show joke shows, dreams that he can stand on the stage and enjoy the cheers of the audience. Taking advantage of the opportunities created by crazy fan Martha (Sandra Bernhard), Rupa can talk to talk show star Jerry. Rupa introduces himself with pride. Although Jerry is perfunctory, Rupa still sees himself as a good friend of Jerry. In order to get ahead in front of his beloved Rita, Rupa wants to get the chance to perform with Jerry at some cost. On the other hand, Jerry is so pestered by Rupa that he can't stand it, driving Rupa and the unwitting Rita out of the house. Jerry's behavior infuriated Rupa. He cooperated with Martha to kidnap Jerry and threatened the TV station to broadcast his performance. Rupa finally got what he wanted and caused an uproar. The film won the Best Screenplay Award at the British Film Academy Award in 1984, the Film of the year Award at the London Film critics Association Award in 1984, and the Best supporting Actress Award at the National Film critics Association Award in 1984.
