The story takes place in exotic Malaysia, where Leslie (Betty Davis Bette Davis) runs a rubber plantation with her husband Robert (Herbert Marshall Herbert Marshall) and lives comfortably. One day, Robert went out on business and left Leslie to take care of the house alone. Soon, there was bad news. Leslie shot and killed a man named David, while Leslie insisted that David wanted to attack her. she shot in self-defense. Robert believes what Leslie says and finds lawyer Howard (James Stephenson James Stephenson) to defend his wife, but what they didn't expect is that David's wife, Mrs. Hammond (Gail Sandgard Gale Sondergaard), has evidence of Leslie's affair with David.
