William Denton is the guardian of the lighthouse. He and Captain Andrew and local youth Philip guard the desolate island. Philip's pet monkey Mario is very clever. One day, William and the three men found a ship with a "distress" sign parked at the edge of the water. Andrew and Philip went on board to check, but William was surprised to find out from the binoculars that they had been brutally killed by the people on board. These crew members turned out to be some pirates who wanted to occupy the island where the lighthouse was located, induce other ships to come ashore, and then plunder the property frantically. Pirate leader Jonathan called himself the new "captain" and shouted with a loudspeaker for William to cooperate. But William found a cave where Mario instructed him, and he had a place to live on this rocky island with only lighthouses. But soon the mountain patrol pirates found the trail of William, they used Mario to lure William to the house by the lighthouse, William was caught and hanged, and little Mario was brutally killed. William was so grieved that Jonathan let him go and played the game of cat and mouse. William jumped into the sea to save his life. The pirates' tricks lured a ship from the United States to England.
