Chris Menges, the master photographer of the two Academy Awards of "the killing Battlefield" and "the Church", likes to return to his hometown in England to comfort some literary films after his promotion as a director. this film is an ethical family story set in the small town of Wales. A highly depressed postmaster adopted a ten-year-old child in order to relieve the loneliness of his single life. But the child also had serious inner confusion, often causing trouble and ruining his regular life. After getting along for a period of time, both of them learned to "settle for second best". The whole tone of this life-oriented family sketch is a little bleak and the end is too abrupt, but because of the wonderful performance, it still looks quite touching.
