Robert (Keanu Reeves Keanu Reeves) is a rebellious young man who loves the ice cream shop owner Carla (Amy Madigan Amy Madigan). However, in Carla's eyes, Robert is just a casual imp, not the man she wants to entrust for life. By accident, Robert discovers that Jack (Jeff Hayenga), the best friend of his father Guy (Friedward Fred Ward), is having an affair with his mother Pam (Bonnie Beatilia Bonnie Bedelia), so he proposes to his mother that she sell his father's land and run away with Jack with the money he can get. Robert drugged his father and then imprisoned him, but when he started selling the land, he was surprised to find that his father had sold the land one step ahead of them, and neither Robert nor Pam knew where the money was.
