The story takes place in Australia in 1880, when the relationship between the police and the gang has reached a freezing point, and everyone knows that if things go on like this, a fierce fight is inevitable. Bandit Arthur (Danny Houston Danny Huston) makes things worse when he escapes after a bloody and brutal massacre at the Hopkins home in a small town. Seeing that his brother has lost his mind, Charles (Guy Pierce Guy Pearce) decides to run away with Mike (Richard Wilson Richard Wilson). At a critical moment, Sheriff Stanley (Ray Winston Ray Winstone) subdues Charles and kidnaps Mike, who takes Mike's life as a bargaining chip and asks Charles to kill the deranged Arthur. With brotherly brothers on both sides, Charles was caught in a difficult choice.
