The essence of road movies is that no matter where you end up, it doesn't matter, it's about the process. The out-of-date independent musician and his girlfriend drove a van all the way from New York to Atlanta and volunteered to join the trip to pick up an old chair bought on ebay as a birthday present for Dad at the Middle Ancient Furniture Store. The Puffy Chair is such a simple story. During the journey, the hero and heroine constantly argue trivially over the way of communication, secretly accumulate the capital of quarrel, follow the feeling that the younger brother marries the woman he has just met after getting drunk, and then leaves in less than 24 hours. Like other road movies, romantic time and bullshit happen in a crisscross. At the end of the journey, people are no wiser than they were before the departure. The difference is that they begin to see more clearly who they are from the friction on the way. They no longer have to pretend, and then make a choice. The leading actor and screenwriter Jay Duplass and director Mark Duplass are brothers. They borrowed 15000 dollars from their parents to make the film. Near the end of the film, when the hero gets home, the parents who greet them in the film are guest starred by the real parents of Mark and Jay. The effect of using a lot of hand-held cameras in the film is very obvious. Sometimes I feel as if I am watching a professional home video. The dialogue and topics are very close to the sweetness and pain of couples in their 20s. I would say that this is not a film about the meaning of life. It's actually a lot of jokes, but it's very real. This low-cost and low-cost film has received a good response in the Japanese Dance Film Festival and SXSW. It is worth mentioning that the soundtrack in the film is not bad. Shortly after the beginning of the film, the hero stood in front of the heroine's window with a portable stereo and Death Cab for Cutie transatlanticism. The film also uses songs by independent bands such as Decibully, Spoon and Of Montreal, which are played generously on the official website.
