After receiving two rare sea elephant tusks, the pilot played by Barry Pepper, Charles Halliday, transports the sick girl Kannalaq to the hospital, where Charlie and Kannalaq (played by Annabella Piugattuk, her first appearance) is left in the wilderness far from the city in a plane crash. Charlie managed to get through the endless snow to the nearest military base, having to leave the sick and dying young girl behind.
