"he" (Alan Rickman Alan Rickman) is an unknown book editor in London. After a painful failure in his writing career, he can only write poems in his spare time, spitting on his mediocre work, regretting his failed love and entering decadent middle age. "she" (Emma Thompson Emma Thompson) is his old lover. After leaving him, she marries a very famous writer and leads a glamorous life in Paris. After 15 years of separation, the two met again for lunch at the restaurant they used to go to. Looking forward to going to the banquet, "he" found that the face of the restaurant had changed, and there was no trace of everything he was once familiar with. "she" is still beautiful, but less of what he remembers, the food remains the same, but the topic is not satisfactory. Is all this just his fantasy of indulging in poetry, or has he really been abandoned with that old age? The film is adapted from a narrative poem of the same name by Christopher Christopher Reid, with which the poet won the Costa Literary Award (Costa Book Awards) in 2010.
