The story describes an unemployed man who, in order to make a living, was bought as a toy by a naughty child of a rich businessman. he suffered a lot of insults by sacrificing his self-esteem to please the rich. When he couldn't bear to leave, the child refused to give up on him. The film mixes absurd jokes with poignant stories. With his usual low-key skills, Richard played the poor man who sold himself as a toy quite moving, with not too many jokes, but with a sense of freshness. Hollywood remade the film in 1982, starring black comedian Richard Pryor, who winked and squeezed jokes throughout the film, but there was no defence of human dignity in the original film.
