In the morning, the pious farmer Taur (Max von Sydow) and his wife prayed and arranged for her daughter Karin to ride a horse to deliver some candles to the church. Karin put on a new costume and invited the family's adopted daughter Ingrid to go with her. Ingrid, who is pregnant, is indulgent and has always been jealous of Karin's bright life. Before leaving, Ingrid stuffed a toad into her food. In front of a forest, Ingrid left Carreen on the road alone and followed her. The three shepherds in the forest saw Carrington alone with evil intentions. After they raped, they killed Karin and took her coat. In the evening, three shepherds stayed at Taur's house and sold Karin's clothes to Taur's wife. The panicked Ingrid returned home at the same time, and she confessed her curse to Taur. After bathing and changing clothes, Tao beat himself with birch branches and was determined to avenge his daughter with both hands. This film won the best foreign language film Oscar in 1961 and a special recommendation award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1960.
