The film shows the lives and feelings of people in contemporary rural Vietnam from the perspective of a 17-year-old boy. Ren is a kind, simple and sensible boy, because his father died young and the family was very poor. In order to send his sister to primary school, he dropped out of primary school and went home to do farm work. Once he met Juan, a woman who came back to visit her relatives. During his contact, he was unconsciously attracted by Juan and had hazy feelings for her, but he suppressed this emotion to join the army. Yu is a kind and hard-working Vietnamese woman, very filial to her parents and infatuated with her husband, but her husband seldom comes home after several years of marriage. Yu can only temporarily forget her memory with heavy farm work.
