In the village of Zigang on the edge of a city in the Balkans, the young man Behan (Davor Dujmovic) lives with his grandmother's family of four. Uncle Melsan, who is addicted to gambling, starts to miss life in Germany every time he loses all of his money. His sister's leg disease cannot be treated because of lack of money. Behan fell in love with Azina in the same village, but the other mother rejected the poverty of the Behan family and firmly refused. The patriarch Ahmed, who had made money in Italy for many years, returned to the village and let Melsan lose his mind at the gambling table and destroyed his family's cabin. But grandma used witchcraft to save Ahmed's child. As a token of gratitude, Ahmed agreed to take his sister abroad for medical treatment and let Behan, who has the special ability to move small iron, accompany him. Behan soon discovered that Ahmed was just the leader of a gang that used children to beg and steal, but he was unable to get rid of it. Soon after, Ahmed fell ill and handed the gang over to Behan. Behan became a rich man and returned to his hometown to take Azina to Milan, but the flesh and blood in Azina made Behan so angry that he insisted on selling the child. This film won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989.
