Tobacco Road (1941)

The story tells the story of a very poor Leicester family living in a rural part of Georgia called Tobacco Road. the owner, Charley Grapewin, is lazy and often does whatever it takes to get something. His wife, Elizabeth Patterson, often advises him to farm hard but to no avail. He also has a son William Tracy and a daughter Gene Tierney who are not married and stay at home. One day, Jeter found that his son-in-law Ward Bond had got a large bag of turnips. He did not hesitate to lead his family to steal Raoul's turnips. Then he heard that Dana Andrews, who had been away for a long time, was going back to Tobacco Road. He was overjoyed and thought that he could borrow money from Lord Tim so that he could buy a lot of farm supplies. However, Ida warned him that he would be punished by God if he stole Raoul's things. Destined for a bad harvest this year, Jeter, uneasy, went to the missionary Bessie Rice Sisters (Marjorie Rambeau) to pray for a good harvest in the following year, but then he learned from Lord Tim that if he failed to pay the rent, the family would be evicted from the land. -- @ Youshan stardust
