Tonkô (1988)
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Juren Zhao Xingde (Sato Hiroshi) was speechless in the face of Xixia examination questions. After that, the discouraged Xingde decided to go far away to travel to the imaginative Western Xia Dynasty. During the trip, Xingde's caravan was attacked by a Han army. He was forced to join the army and was gradually appreciated and respected by Captain Zhu Wang Li. In the battle with the Uighurs, he rescued and hid the Uighur Princess Srubiya (played by Anai Nakagawa). Two people changed from hate to love, and agreed to run away to Xixia, but by mistake, Xingde had to leave his lover to walk alone. Unexpectedly, when he was gone for two years, Srubiya was unexpectedly occupied by Xixia Prince Li Yuanhao (Heihiko Watanase). Affected by fate, morality is doomed to leave a legend in the dust of history. The film was adapted by Inoue Yasushi, a famous Japanese historical novel, and won the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor Award (Toshihiko Nishida) at the 12th Japanese Film Awards in 1988.
