The film is adapted from real historical events. The story takes place after the end of World War II, when Germany was defeated and a large number of captured German soldiers became prisoners. During the war, the Germans planted more than 1.5 million mines on the west coast of Denmark, and some of the captured young German soldiers were forced to become live mine detectors. Led by Danish officer Karl (Roland more Roland M ø ller), the captives, who are just children, begin demining operations, purifying the long coastline step by step with their hands, feet and even lives. However, when the mission is over, when the surviving children are filled with joy that they can finally escape the palm of death and return to their hometown, another equally cruel task awaits them.
