Vanya on 42nd Street (1994)

The last work of French director Louis Mahler uses a rather complicated way to explore the delicate intertwined relationship between life like drama and drama like life. In the film, many actors sometimes become themselves and sometimes become characters in the play, explaining the entangled emotional relationship between them in the real and false life interaction. The image of the whole film is monotonous, but the acting is so wonderful that it was selected by the Associated Press as one of the top ten best films of the 1990s.
