Antonio (Nino Manfredi Nino Manfredi), Gianni (Vitttorio Gassman Vittorio Gassman) and Nikolai (Stefano Satta Flores) are life and death friends in the war era. After the war, they returned to their hometown and began their very different lives. Antonio meets the beautiful girl Luciana (Stephania Sandrelli Stefania Sandrelli) and falls in love, but Luciana likes Gianni. But in the end, Gianni chose to marry the daughter of the Marquis, and Luciana was in pain, and Antonio reappeared at Luciana's side, accompanying her.
