Actress Pepa (Carmen Mora Carmen Maura) learns that she is pregnant, but her joy does not last long because her lover Ivan (Fernando Guill é n) suddenly disappears. Pepa tried her best to contact Ivan, but found nothing in the end, which made her hysterical and painful. And just at this time, Ivan's wife Lucia (Juliet a Serrano) comes to the door to make a big trouble. Soon, Pepa's good friend Kendra (Mar í a Barranco) also sought refuge for fear of police arrest. A group of women on the verge of mental breakdown got together to perform a sad tragicomedy. The film was shortlisted in the main competition unit of the 1988 Venice Film Festival and finally won the Best Screenplay Award; the Best Young work and Best Actress Award at the 1988 European Film Festival; the New York Film critics Association Award for Best Foreign language Film in 1988; and the Song Ya Award for Best Actress (Carmen Maura), Best Editing, Best Screenplay and Best supporting Actress (Mar í a Barranco) in 1989.
