In the near future, a mysterious virus called ZN1 has spread all over the world, causing thousands of people to become bloodthirsty zombies, while those who have been bitten by them are quickly infected into the same kind of zombies. The US government is completely paralyzed and mankind is facing the doom of extinction. At a makeshift gathering point in Upper New York, National Guard Director Charles Garnett (Tom Everett Scott) and partner Roberta Warren (Kellita Smith) welcome unexpected visitors. The newcomer is Mark Hammond (Harold Perrineau), who claims to be a lieutenant in Delta Force, and asks Garnett and others to help escort a man named Murphy (Keith Allan) to California. Murphy was attacked by eight zombies, but survived unharmed because he was injected with antibodies to the ZN1 virus. As the last hope of mankind, the interim government demanded that Murphy's life be saved anyway. Hammond was attacked and killed during the journey, while Garnett took on the responsibility of escorting and embarked on an ill-fated journey with the survivors around him.
