In the 13th century, the Japanese monk Daoyuan (Kentaro Nakamura) traveled thousands of miles to the Song Dynasty, visiting famous mountains and rivers to seek the true meaning of the Dharma. However, the congregation of the major monasteries lust for incense and get close to politics, so it is difficult to find the truth all over the world. After twists and turns, Daoyuan accidentally met and worshiped under the seat of Tiantongshan Rujing Zen master, and finally became enlightened and returned to the country. At that time, Japan was in a period of chaos in Kamakura, where folk burning, looting and adultery were rampant, and even monks had no intention to practice and were greedy for pleasure. Daoyuan single-handedly founded Cao Dongzong, which attracted sincere obedience to Taoist people, but it was also resentful by other sects, and was safeguarded by Kamakura Governor Porto Yue and his disciples. Daoyuan led his disciples to Yue Qian, where he built Yongping Temple, and Cao Dongzong began to carry forward slowly. This film is based on Tetsuo Otani's original work, the Wind of Yongping, the Life of Daoyuan.
