Sam Tyler, a Manchester City detective, was knocked down by a car during the case and woke up from a coma to find that his 4x4 car had become the model of 30 years ago, with documents to transfer him to the Manchester City Police Station. It turned out that he went back to 1973 and still worked in the same building and became a subordinate to another detective Gene Hunt. Gene was DCI (Detective Chief Instpector) and Sam was DI (Dectective Inspector). The two seemed to be the relationship between the team leader and deputy team leader, and there were several detectives under him, including uniformed policewoman Annie (WPC Woman Police Constable).
