A Cruel Romance (1984)
The film is based on the play "the unmarried Bride" by the old Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky. Larissa, who is both talented and beautiful, is pursued by many people in the city. Her mother wants to marry her to a rich man so as to make a good life for herself. Larissa falls in love with Baratov, a tycoon, and is committed to him, but the latter is engaged to a young lady who is married to a gold mine. When Larissa is disappointed, she falls under the gun of her fiance who has never loved before. This film won the award of Best feature Film, Best Photography, Best composition and Best Actor in Soviet Film Industry in 1985. The great Russian director and actor Mikharkov performed and sang brilliantly in the film. Andre Petrov, Russia's most influential folk singer, composed music for the film.
