During World War I, the German government called on young and enthusiastic student volunteers to join the battlefield to defend their country with beautiful slogans. The warm-blooded German youth Paul Baumann (Lou Ayers Lew Ayres) devoted himself to World War I with heroic ideals. But when Paul and his classmates were trained and sent to fight on the western front, they witnessed cruel hunger, blood and death. The absurdity and ruthlessness of war made Paul return home from infatuation to discouragement and injury. But the ignorant villagers were unaware of the crisis at the front. Paul angrily explained to the students the ruthlessness of the war and that there was no war on the western front. He returned from his vacation early to the front and was unfortunately hit by a stray bullet when he reached out to catch a butterfly in the trench. The classic anti-war film No War on the Western Front, directed by famous Hollywood director Lewis Meyers Stone, is adapted from the German writer LeMarc's novel of the same name. The film, which can be called one of the greatest anti-war films in film history, was nominated for best picture, best director and best screenwriter at the 3rd Academy Awards in 1930. The director reproduced the tragic reality of the war with a concise and concise lens and wrote it alive in a delicate and smooth way.
