In 1818, John (Donald Sutherland), the head of the famous Bell family in Red River Town, Tennessee, was cursed by the witch Cather Bates (Gaye Brown) because of a land dispute. Soon after, a variety of horrible and bizarre incidents occurred one after another, and gradually escalated. In the end, Bell's youngest daughter, Betsy (Rachel Hurd-Wood), is possessed by a ghost and sends out an inhuman curse from her mouth: "one of the Bell family must die." The Bells did everything they could to expel the evil spirits, but to no avail. They must face the horror curse that is about to come true, and the ugly secrets hidden in the family. Based on real events, the film is the only officially recognized death case in American history, and there have been more than 20 books devoted to it.
