The TV series, adapted from the German writer Alfred Deblin's novel of the same name, is set in Berlin, Germany in the late 1920s. G ü nter Lamprecht, a strong, violent and alcoholic prostitute sentenced to four years in prison for killing his cohabiting prostitute, vowed to be a good man of integrity, but wandered around Alexandria Square all day because he didn't know where to start. Soon, he had the first woman after he got out of prison, and began to try all kinds of manual work for her, but he was soon fooled by life, which hit him very much and left his original circle of life. After dealing with all kinds of people, Franz returned to his original living environment and met Peter Kollek in his frequented tavern. Although Rennhold stammered, Franz still found him so charming that he began to blindly trust and rely on him, and even made a secret game agreement with him, promising to take over the women he was tired of playing with. In the course of the game, Franz showed an affectionate side, tearing up the agreement unilaterally for a woman, making Rennhold hold a grudge against him. Soon, Rennhold used his trust in himself to pull him into the thief ring, causing him to lose an arm. But after the amputation, Franz had no desire for revenge. Hanna Schygulla, Franz's protector and old girlfriend, introduced the simple, beautiful girl Karin Baal to him. Franz fell in love with him and got out of despair, but he had to earn a living because he lost his ability to work. Unable to stand Franz's happy life, Renhold gave birth to unmotivated evil thoughts, and once again used Franz's "unmotivated pure love (Fassbinder)" to drag Franz into the thief ring again, and began to find ways to seduce Miz. trying to push Franz's life to a dead end.
