The classic black thriller directed by American realistic film master Elia Kaizan. Based on real facts, this film tells the story of a kind and kind priest killed while waiting on a street corner in a quiet American town of Connecticut. The citizens of the town were shocked and asked the police to take action to severely punish the murderer. All the witnesses pointed out that John Waldron, a nervous stranger, was the killer. Although John Waldron vehemently denied the crime, no one believed him. District attorney Henry found the case questionable. Under great political pressure, he tried to prove John Waldron's innocence.
