Brian Roberts (Michael York Michael York), a male English teacher who has just arrived in Berlin, happens to be Sally's roommate, who supports himself by teaching English. Sally failed to seduce Brian, so he suspected that he was gay. Sally has sex with one of her friends Max (Helmuth Grimm Helmut Griem), and later she discovers that Robert has also had sex with Max. On the other side, a Jew Fritz fell in love with Natalia, a Robert student, a rich Jewish lady. In order to be with Natalia, he turned from a Christian to a Jew. Sally is pregnant, but she doesn't know whether the baby is Robert or Max's. As the Nazis became more and more powerful in Germany, Robert decided to take Sally back to England.
