In 1893, Gabriel Chanel's winemaker father abandoned her and her sister Antonette to the Aubaz orphanage because of her mother's death. As adults, Chanel (Audrey Tatu Audrey Tautou) and Antonette (Mary Gillian Marie Gillain) make a living by sewing while singing in bars to make money. Chanel becomes one of his many mistresses when she meets French millionaire Etina Bazan (Beno ú t Poelvoorde) with a song called "Coco puppy". At Bazan's castle, Chanel began making bonnets and became friends with actress Emily Ann (Emmanuel Duff Emmanuelle Devos). Chanel is increasingly dissatisfied with pleasing Bazan's life and finds herself falling in love with Bazan's good friend, British industrialist Arthur Boyi Cabo (Alessandro Nivola Alessandro Nivola). With the support of Boyi, can Chanel start the personal career she has always wanted? This film was nominated for the 2009 European Film Awards audience Award.
