A missing boy named Dahl was found in the town and was taken to a welfare home because he was unclaimed. After examination, the doctor found that all functions of his body were normal, and his IQ was very high, but he only lost part of his memory. Dahl was arranged to stay at Andy's house temporarily. Andy and his wife Joyce have been hoping to adopt a child, and Dahl's arrival made them very excited. In the process of getting along, Dahl and Teta, the neighbor's little boy, became very good friends. They went to school, played together, and won for Andy's baseball team together. Everyone thought Dahl was a very smart and lovable boy. Suddenly, one day, two people who claimed to be Dahl's parents came to pick up Dahl, which made Andy's family and Teta very sad. Dahl also developed a deep affection for them and reluctantly left Andy's house. In fact, Dahl is a robot with a chip implanted in his brain, but he now has all the physiological functions of a normal child. It was not his parents who came to pick him up, but the doctor who made him. The doctor was moved by the deep feelings of Dahl and Andy. He wanted Dahl to live like a normal child, but senior national officials demanded that they be destroyed.
