Dear Emma, Sweet B (1992)

Emma and Bao Bei, who came from rural areas, worked as Russian teachers in primary schools in Budapest. After the political change in Eastern Europe, Russian is no longer a compulsory course. In order to keep their teaching jobs, the two went to evening classes to study English, and then went to primary school to teach what they had learned the night before to the children. The two had no way to rent or buy a house outside, so they always lived in the public dormitory and watched as roommates for seven years. In order to improve the cash-strapped financial situation, Emma has another job as a maid, while Bao Bei lingers in the bar, hooking up with foreigners to invite her to dinner. Emma fell in love with the headmaster of the school, but the man already had a wife and children and could not divorce her. Bao Bei finally lost her teaching job because of illegal prostitution and went to a dead end.
