Adapted from a real event, this film tells the story of a team of oil workers struggling to save themselves from the worst man-made disaster in history with great courage and firm will. Forty miles offshore, the world's top offshore drilling platform, the Deepwater Horizon, stands on the vast expanse of the Gulf of Mexico. Mike Williams, deputy manager of the platform (Mark Wahlberg), leads his team to complete a record-breaking drilling operation. Unexpectedly, sudden well pressure instability and pressure flushing led to the failure of the emergency safety system, which immediately triggered a series of explosions, and deep-sea crude oil broke through the well cover and gushed out, forming an oil column tens of meters high, followed by a huge fire. Millions of tons of crude oil poured out, and the entire rig and nearby sea level were surrounded by smoke and fire, turning into purgatory, trapping 126 drilling workers. The fire was too big for the maritime rescue team to approach. Mike led several brave companions to start a self-rescue operation. They searched and rescued the injured, arranged for evacuation, and held on until the last minute. The rig was about to sink, and Mike and his companions had to escape in dire straits.
