In 1992, in Mussel, a small town in Romania, the state-owned ARO car factory just went bankrupt. There are rumors that the factory will be privatized within a week, and the buyer is a French company that wants to turn the factory into a snail cannery. The union leader, George, tried desperately to find a way to save the factory. He persuaded 1000 male workers to sell sperm to the new sperm bank in Bucharest, earning money that would allow them to buy the factory.
