In a quiet and peaceful rural village in southern China, Tang Ling (Walter Houston Walter Huston) lives a happy and busy life with his family. His two eldest sons have married and had children, and the youngest (Herd Hatfield Hurd Hatfield) is still full of blood. The second son's wife Xiaoyu (Catherine Hepburn Katharine Hepburn) is a woman with a rebellious spirit. By reading books, she gets advanced knowledge and progressive ideas. However, all this was broken by the Japanese war of aggression against China, and their lives have undergone earth-shaking changes. In the face of the dilapidated homeland, the young and brave female militia Xiaoyu led the villagers to wage a heroic struggle against the invaders.
