Elmer Gantry (1960)

Sister Sharon (Jane Simmons Jean Simmons) is on her mission tour when she meets a man named Elmer (Burt Lancaster Burt Lancaster). Elmer was a shrewd and cunning speculator who saw a business opportunity in Sister Sharon. In order to build a church by the sea, Elmer persuaded Sharon to make money with him, and soon the naive Sharon fell in love with Elmer uncontrollably, and even offered him a body that should have been dedicated to God. But it wasn't long before Elmer got tired of Sharon and ruthlessly abandoned her. Lulu (Shirley Jones Shirley Jones), the priest's daughter, expresses her sympathy and anger when she learns of Sharon's tragic experience. In order to get back at Elmer, Lulu came up with a series of tricks that eventually ruined Elmer's reputation.
