Encounters at the End of the World (2007)

The documentary was written, directed and narrated by Werner Herzog, who documented his and his crew's trip to Antarctica to photograph local creatures, residents and unique geography. This documentary is not a film about the famous penguins in Antarctica, but to explore human life in Antarctica and the magnificent beauty of Antarctica. They went to shoot at McMurdo Station on Ross Island, the largest scientific research center in Antarctica, which is operated by the Antarctic Program Department of the National Science Foundation of the United States. After interviewing some local members who provided support in operations, logistics, IT and maintenance, they went one after another to places where humans camped in Antarctica, such as seal bases and diving camps, and met many interesting people along the way. A number of short interviews were conducted, including cell biologist Samuel Bowser, zoologist Jan Pawlowski, penguin researcher David Ainley, and so on.
