The two men followed volcanic eruptions and aftermath around the world, documented their findings with stunning photography and shocking images, and shared their experiences with curious audiences through the media and lecture tours. Eventually, Katia and Maurice were killed in a volcanic eruption in Unzen, Japan in 1991, but they left the world a wealth of knowledge and heritage about nature. This meaningful and visually stunning work won the best editing award in the American documentary competition at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and was selected as the opening film of the 2022 Swiss True Film Festival.
