In February 1945, the War of Iwo Jima, known as the "Pacific meat grinder", ended. On the fifth day of the battle, five US Marines, a military doctor and an army reporter "created" a picture of a hero, a photo symbolizing national victory: they planted the American flag on the commanding heights of Iwo Jima. When the photo hit the headlines of American newspapers, three of the six heroes died bravely before they even knew they had become heroes. The other three who survived the war said nothing about the war, as if they had not participated in it. Because they don't go to war to be heroes, they fight for their country. When they see their partners fall down one by one, they feel that the meaning of life is losing a little bit.
