This experimental documentary is a compilation of so-called startling impressions of Eastern Europe and its citizens in transition after the end of the Cold War. A variety of places, such as Baltic beaches, and the snow-capped streets of Moscow, compete with citizens for attention when they line up, march or sit idle in the waiting room of the railway station. The choice of exquisite, mysterious images is not narrated and there are no clear points (except for the concept of transition). Indeed, there is not even much musical accompaniment. Director Chantal Ackerman (Chantal Akerman) fans who are actively engaged in "non-commercial" works are more likely to find the film more attractive than the general audience.
