This film records the epic great life of Mahatma Gandhi in India. In 1893, 24-year-old Gandhi (played by Ben Kingsley Ben Kingsley) was jailed after being invited to work as a lawyer in South Africa, determined to lead Indian immigrants in non-violent and non-cooperative protests there. After getting out of prison, Gandhi returned to his motherland, established an eminent monk retreat in San Balang, joined the Indian independence movement led by the Congress Party, and promoted the struggle concept of non-violence and non-cooperation. Gandhi was jailed four times during the movement; under his unremitting efforts and the leadership of the Congress Party, Indian independence was finally put on the agenda, and Gandhi went to London in 1931 to attend a round table on independence. However, with the approach of independence, the religious contradiction between Muslims and Hindus in India has become increasingly prominent, and Gandhi's concept of non-violence and non-cooperation is facing more severe new challenges. The film won eight Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (Richard Attenborough Richard Attenborough), Best Actor (Ben Kingsley), Best original Screenplay, Best Art Director, Best Photography, Best Fashion Design and Best Editing.
