The Post, the new film about the Pentagon Papers, brings together Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. In 1971, a Defense Department official exposed confidential documents about the US government's involvement in the Vietnam War through the New York Times, the Washington Post and other media, but before the documents were made public, the US Department of Defense tried to block the disclosure of the documents and ended in failure. The Pentagon document incident marked the beginning of the discredit of the Nixon-led federal government, and the subsequent Watergate incident led directly to the downfall of the Nixon administration. The protagonists of "The Post" are Ben Bradley, editor of the Washington Post, who played a key role in the Pentagon papers incident, and Kay Graham, the publisher. Hanks will play Bradley, a character who was in the classic Watergate film "always."
