In the 1980s and 1990s, AIDS spread like a plague, killing more than 40 million people. A group of young and brave gays and lesbians who fight for their rights with strong beliefs and actions. By taking to the streets, attacking government agencies, infiltrating scientific research and participating in clinical trials, they have given their youth and even their lives, successfully reversed the social perception of values, found effective drugs and treatments, and saved the new generation of AIDS patients from the fate of being sentenced to death. Almost all of this film is edited from historical images of that year, and it is the first film made by director David Frans. The Plague Survival Guide won the 2012 Gotham Award for best documentary and was nominated for the 85th Academy Award for best documentary unit.
