Il Varco - Once More Unto the Breach (2019)
This is a unique form of World War II documentary, the whole film through the narration of such a story: in 1941, an Italian soldier went to the front of the Soviet Union to join the Nazi army as a fascist alliance. Victory seemed to be just around the corner, the motorcade moved on, and the people were singing and full of hope. The young soldier recalled a sad fairy tale told by his Russian mother. Unlike his young companions, he had fought in war in Africa, and he was afraid to go to war. The train passed through Europe and reached the vast plains of Ukraine. With the coming of winter, people's enthusiasm gradually faded under the impact of the first shell, cold and heavy snow. The soldiers' wish is no longer victory, but a warm bed, food and home. Ghosts seem to float in the windswept prairie.
