In the last years of the French occupation of Vietnam, French lady Ariane (Catherine Deneuve Catherine Deneuve) runs a rubber plantation in southern Vietnam. She adopts Vietnamese Princess Camille (Van Lindane Linh Dan Pham), whose parents are both dead. Ariana falls in love with the young Vietnamese colonial naval officer Zhan Baptiz (Vincent Perez Vincent Perez), but then Jen falls in love with Camille. Camille vowed to marry Zhan and ran away from home to follow him to Dragon Island in northern Vietnam. On the way, Camille was chased for mistakenly killing a French officer, and the two men began to flee. On the way, they gave birth to their son Etiana, who was eventually arrested and handed over to their grandmother, Ariana. Jen refused to return to China for trial and killed himself angrily; Camille was released from prison because of an amnesty, and when Ariana went to pick her up, Camille left the home without hesitation and became a staunch member of the Vietnamese National Independent Communist Party. A few years later, when Etiana again met his mother, who participated in the negotiations in Geneva as a member of the Vietnamese delegation, the two were already indifferent. This film won the 65 th session.
