The story takes place in the countryside near Thuringia state in East Germany before the summer of 1990. Maria, who is about to turn 19 and her boyfriend Johnannes lives on Johnannes's parents' farm, would rather immerse herself in books than focus on graduation. With the reunification of Germany, people have a feeling that a new era is coming.
