Journey to the Sun (1999)

Taiyad Muhammad (Newroz Baz) from western Turkey accidentally met Bazan (Nazmi Kirik), a Kurdish from the east, and the two became good friends. Soon after, Muhammad was sent to prison as a Kurd for helping Bazan avoid attacks from ethnic elements. After he got out of prison, he lost his hard-earned job, and Bazan died an unnatural death. Mohammad took the body of his best friend on his long and arduous journey home. This film won the Best Picture Award at the 1999 Ankara International Film Festival, the Blue Angel Award and the Peace Film Award at the 1999 Berlin International Film Festival, the Best Film Award, the Best Director Award, the FIPRESCI Award and the audience selection Award at the 1999 Istanbul Film Festival, and the Golden camera Award at the 1999 Manaki Brothers International Film Festival.
