Before World War I, the German ancestor (Oscar Weinell Oskar Werner) and the Frenchman Jim (Henri Sail Henri Serre) met in Paris. They share the same interests, have a strong and common interest in poetry and novels, and are even fascinated by the same sculpture. Naturally, both Zu and Zhan fall in love with the same woman: the smart and beautiful Catherine (Jeanne Morrow Jeanne Moreau). In such a relationship, Zhan chose Chengquan's gentle and simple ancestor. They spent a wonderful time together on holiday in the country. However, with the outbreak of World War I, they lost touch, and during their service in their own country, they were so worried that they would kill their friends on the battlefield. Joe, on the other hand, kept writing to his wife Catherine. At the end of the war, Joe and Jim met again, and Jim realized that Joe and Catherine had a bad relationship-she never stopped chasing feelings outside of marriage and liked to enjoy freedom in all kinds of love relationships. When Jim lived in her ancestral home, Catherine made no secret of her love for Jim, and this triangular relationship was maintained in a balanced and happy way, which others could not see through. Catherine's forthright and sharp character when Jim was about to leave.
